INVISIBLE PURE JOY…Right Under My Nose!

AS YOU ENTER TODAY’s BLOG TAKE A DEEP CLEANSING BREATH (IN…………HOLD…………OUT……WIGGLE YOUR TOESIES)….Let’s begin…ACTIVATE YOUR SOUL CONNECTION !

Dearest ButterflyMoms,

At yesterday’s ButterflyMoms workshop I had a simple epiphany, almost unnoticeable at first, but once I brought my attention to it, I realized the PURE JOY that the cool, clean glass of water by my bedside brings me every night.

“WHAT!? WATER? Is that what I just wrote? How can water make you happy?” For those of you who are mentally traveling at breakneck speeds, trying to fit your never-ending TO-DO LIST, this may not seem like anything even slightly important. “So what you have water by your bed. Big deal.”

Having water by my bedside gives me wonderful feelings that I have not even ever really noticed because for most of my life my brain has been RACING (against whom I have ZERO idea…although now that I’ve put it out there, it’s probably racing against myself which is probably why I was NEVER really the winner and could never stop racing. That is probably a GREAT definition of living in the RAT RACE).

The more I have called my energy back, the more I have started living in the NOW, the more of these simple AHA’s I’m having/noticing. To wake up in the middle of the night feeling parched and being able to simply reach out and find the wonderfully cool glass there waiting for me…..AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! IT FEELS SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!

It is a simple a ritual that without even asking my parents, I know at least three generations before me have done. I did not even think about it but it’s something I picked up from them. It makes me feel VERY HAPPY to realize this. It feels like yet another connection point with them.

I find it fascinating that I have been doing this all my life not realizing that this simple “before I go to bed” ritual was grounding and connecting me. It also brings in deep GRATITUDE for I know that in many parts of the world this LUXURY is not a possibility.

Part of what is sooooo wonderful about doing this work, is that you get to uncover so many magical moments like this one. I am at this point where now when I think about bedtime, part of my “RITUAL” is going to get a glass of water and even just thinking about it brings me GREAT JOY! What simple things are you doing in your life that bring you joy?

HOW YOUR COUCH CAN HELP YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE…

EFFORTING. TO EFFORT. In most of our cultures VALUE is placed on HOW MUCH EFFORT you put into something. My background is that I’m TRAINED in both the CORPORATE and ENTREPRENEURIAL worlds. I have my MBA. I got it because I wanted to know what “they” know. It was a combination of being curious, wanting to make more money and wanting to feel safe. My area of expertise is MARKETING and more specifically PUBLIC RELATIONS. I’ve done work with some of the world’s most incredible people like author and humanitarian Jane Goodall, former president of the USSR Mikael Gorbachev and companies like Yahoo!, Sun Microsystems, Procter & Gamble, Continental Airlines and Reebok. I’ve even done work for the governments of Portugal and Japan. I have been doing this work for decades and I am very good at it.

So when I looked at my DREAM goal for getting on The Oprah Show, I took the same model as I do when I do PR. What are my objectives? What are my resources? Mind map it, set the list of tasks and off I would go. Well, what I found on that journey was THE MORE I EFFORTED the LESS PROGRESS I made. This really stumped me. This is the way that I’ve always done it, by mostly EFFORTING. At one point I was even going to WALK to Chicago…some of you who have read the blog for a while might remember that. It was a very foolish thing given that I had very small kids at home, no money, was not trained, had no equipment, etc, etc, etc…but as a Marcus Cherry’s mom used to say, “ A hard head makes a soft ass.” I was ignorance on fire. I did not trust the universe was going to give me my dream so I was going to circumvent the system! OH YA BABY! I THOUGHT I had it all worked out! Luckily for me the producers got wind of it and categorically told me that Oprah does not like stunts like that and if I did it I would never get on. I was disappointed but also a bit relieved. Can you imagine me walking 1,000 in the dead of winter?! I don’t know that they would have ever found my body!  ;)

HOW I finally got on The Oprah Show is what I teach in Thursday night ButterflyMoms workshops that you keep seeing everywhere. This upcoming Thursday will be the 20th week anniversary! YAY! That is 20 weeks of helping people stop their EFFORTING. Twenty weeks of learning how to MANIFEST the life you want! It feels soooo good! It is me accomplishing my life’s goal of BEING THE FIRE THAT IGNITES PEOPLE’S SOUL!

This whole ButterflyMoms journey is one of the most delightful adventures of my life! The gift of being able to connect with others in SUCH a meaningful and profound manner is ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR! Each step of the way I have had to find the COURAGE to drop my ARMOR (ego, ways I used to do things, expectations, shoulds) at the entrance of each new chapter of the journey. As soon as I quiet down enough I can literally hear the next “request”, or maybe the word “suggestion” would be better because I do get to choose whether I do it or not. Sometimes I wish it were more automatic because FEAR can be such a powerful deterrent to FLYING (CONNECTING TO YOUR HEART) in this lifetime! :) ! How many adventures have you missed in your lifetime because you took the hand of FEAR instead of that of your INTUITION? Hmmmmmm? NO JUDGING HERE! JUST OBSERVE. TAKE A VERY DEEP LUSCIOUS BREATH AND OBSERVE!!!! BE KIND TO YOURSELF AND THE ANSWER WILL FALL OUT OF YOU. :) !

The Incredible Creative Practitioner & Graphic Facilitator Karen Knight-Detering

In doing my first ever ButterflyMoms retreat I have hit upon the same issue that happened with The Oprah Show, my computer is acting up. I am noticing that technology gets very screwy when I step through the doorway of another cool adventure. That is probably no surprise to you because I have listed her the weeks and weeks of computer woes. Good Morning Beautiful ButterflyMoms!

Little warning today…You can mindlessly breeze through today’s blog, nod politely to your screen and think oh that’s a good idea, I will get to it later. I ask that you be EXTRA PRESENT today when you read today’s ButterflyMoms blog. Use breath. Use water. Wiggle your toesies. This ain’t your normal sippin’ tea y’all….Take a breath so deep you have to close your eyes and smile…then begin…

WHAT IS THE POINT? What is the point of your getting up, doing all the things you do, day after day after day? Why do it? Are you moving in a certain direction? Do you know what you are doing? Do you know why you are doing the things you do? Are you honoring yourself in the process? Are you kind? Are you present to your life?

When we are younger society seems to give us a path that generally looks the same all over the world with a few exceptions, like some expect their kids to go to school/college. Regardless most have a vision for their kids to grow up, find a job, a mate and then procreate. (Hey that rhymes! ;) ) We have gotten so good at it that we pretty much do it MINDLESSLY.

There are HUGE industries built around supporting this basic path, like the wedding industry, for example, that as we have become more UNCONSCIOUS IN OUR LIVING… have grown more and more and more expensive to the point of lunacy. Ok this “lunacy” title is my opinion but when we hear stories of people who spent so much just for their rehearsal dinner that they had no money left for a down payment for a house that seems a bit much, non?

So WHAT IS THE POINT? Better yet, WHAT IS YOUR POINT? What is your reason for being on planet Earth? You may not have DIRECTLY asked that of yourself BUT HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE, the things you spend your time and energy focused on, determine the LEGACY OF YOUR LIFE.  Every “simple” thought or action you take designs your life for you…

Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become your character.
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

Good Morning Beautiful ButterflyMoms!

As I go through my week many things touch my soul in a meaningful way. In doing the work I do, I constantly struggle with going back and forth with how I view the world. I grew up being taught that in this world there are GOOD people and BAD people and that our actions were either GOOD or BAD. I think this one “little” point messes people up more than anything because it opens up the possibility to start JUDGING others…and ourselves. If we are not “PERFECT” (whatever that means) than we are not worthy and we punish ourselves through lack of self-care, like not sleeping enough, not eating what will nurture our precious bodies, not moving our bodies enough…you know what I mean, right?
I went to an all-day DreamFactory Community training yesterday in Framingham. When it was almost time for lunch I asked if lunch was being brought in or if we were going out. They said that everyone brought something to share…Well, obviously I did not get that memo so I panicked! I could feel my breath become shallow and my chest feel like there was a big boulder on it. I went to the front desk and asked the wonderful receptionist if I could order something for the group. The group leader Nancy Cantor sensed my state of worry and asked me to come back into the room. Nancy said that everyone had brought enough and we could all share. She said we were all there for community and this was an exercise in doing just that.

Now I am WELL-TRAINED in the ART OF GIVING. I believe most women, especially, are,…BUT how good are YOU at the ART OF RECEIVING! Well, this simple, simple incident triggered something for me and I hate to admit it but I started crying. In that moment I felt totally UNWORTHY somehow because I was not contributing like I was taught to, even as a little girl.
Nancy asked me to look around the room and look at people’s faces and see if they looked like they were being put out or used. As I scanned the room looking into the women’s eyes, I saw nothing but LOVE and COMPASSION in their eyes and smiles. It was MAGNIFICENT to be a part of such LOVE from total strangers. It was humbling, truly humbling. With all the ICKIE news about what is happening on our planet, it can grow the FEAR and ANGER in us. Now there is a place for that but the way it is being activated there are large numbers of people who LIVE THERE! To live in fear/anger/sadness serves no one!

If you just put yourself out there with an OPEN HEART you will see that the LOVE will grow. There are no guarantees. Heartache will happen but the heartache that I have experienced gives the deeper depth to the LOVE I can hold in my heart. My intention today for myself, the gift I’m giving myself is to LOVE DEEPLY…how about you? How will you LOVE DEEPLY today?
